Liguria is a region of North Italy and it is located in the north-west part of the country; it is a land that offers each year to tourists a lot of opportunities to have fun and many accommodation and hotel facilities to stay.
The regional capital is Genoa (Genova in Italian) and other important cities are Imperia, La Spezia and Savona.
Genoa has one of the most important ports of Italy, where each year moor ships from each part of the world. This resort is visited by many tourists and this is also due to the exhibition of “Salone Nautico” that took place on the middle of October and where there are shown the most beautiful boats recently built. Monuments of great importance for the city are the Palazzo Ducale and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta; of course you will have to visit the famous aquarium, where you could admire marine specimens of striking beauty. Imperia is another well-known resort of this region where there are important seaside centres like Sanremo and Bordighera, it has also many sights to be visit like the Duomo of San Maurizio and Villa Varese.
Nearby the area of La Spezia you could visit the Cinque Terre (”five lands”) an indented land where there are five tiny, picturesque fishing villages: Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso, Riomaggiore and Vernazza; the Cinque Terre is a sight that has great importance and tourists that come here are attracted by the possibility to plunge in the clear sea and to taste delicious dishes of the typical cuisine. In La Spezia you could also visit the museums that preserve numerous artefacts of prestigious value; some of them are the Museum of Castello San Giorgio, the Museum Civico “Amedeo” and the Maritime Technical Museum. Savona is another city of Liguria where you could admire important and beautiful historical buildings like the Cathedral of Assunta and the “Fortezza of Priamar”.
Liguria is a region in which you could find what you need in order to spend lovely holidays; in fact, here there are comfortable hotels and other kind of accommodation that offer to their customer their best services. Its land is variegated and going in nature reserves and in parks of this region you could also make some beautiful trips surrounded by nature; these are protected areas where you could admire specimens of animals of exceptional beauty, one of these parks is that of the Cinque Terre. In Liguria there are also two important marine areas, that one of Cinque Terre ad the other one the Reserve of Portofino, where people are not allow to enter inside because they could disturb the stillness of animals that live in these areas.
By visiting Liguria you will have to go in one of many farmhouse restaurants or typical restaurants, the palate will be satisfied by delicious first courses like the trofie (traditional pasta of Liguria) with pesto sauce or fish-based second courses; and it is the right place to taste the focaccia, a real speciality of this region that adults and children love. For wine connoisseurs you could taste excellent wines like the ones from the hills of Levanto Rosso or from Cinque Terre. Do not forget to visit the resort of Portofino or to go to some village fairs that are organised each year.
In the past this region, with the city of Genoa, was one of the great Repubbliche Marinare (literally Sailor Republics) together with the cities of Venice, Pisa and Amalfi. A city that became very important because in its port moored ships from each part of the world. In addition, in Liguria there are many archaeological finds that go back to the Romans and Greeks, people that in the past conquered this land.
Liguria is a region that each year is visited by adults and children, families will find ideal areas in which spend their lovely holidays with their children, while young people could go to discotheques or in some water theme park located in this land.
The economy of this region is largely based on agriculture, farming, fishing and tourism; to remember that in Liguria there are many chemical and metallurgical industries.
